MTS says pent-up demand boosts smartphone sales 22% in 2023
MOSCOW, Dec 29 (PRIME) -- Smartphone sales in Russia increased 22% on the year to 681 billion rubles and 26% to 30.7 million devices in 2023 thanks to pent-up demand, mobile operator and electronics retailer MTS said on Friday in a statement.
“According to MTS’ analysts, deferred demand has become the main factor that impacted high results of sales. Over the recent two years, buyers tried to delay the purchase of smartphones in view of new economic factors,” MTS said.
“In their turn, retailers managed not only to rearrange logistics chains, but also ensure constant marketing activities. One more reason is soaring expansion of offers in different price segments by Chinese manufacturers who actively replace brands from other countries,” the company added.
The average price fell 3% thanks to a significant increase in the segment of up to 10,000 rubles, which widened 50%.
The top five brands in money terms were Apple with 33%, Xiaomi with 20%, Samsung with 17%, Tecno with 7%, and Realme with 6%. The top five brands in units were Xiaomi with 30%, Tecno with 14%, Samsung and Realme with 11% for each, Infinix with 10%, and Apple with 8%.
